Artist Feature *Our Mama!*

All of us children have grown up knowing that our Mama sews. It is just what she does and always did. Her aunt taught her as a little girl, and she grew up learning to sew her own baby doll clothes.

When we were young and desired a new dress for school, our Mama would stay up until the wee hours of the night, sewing away. We woke up and voila! A brand new dress would be hanging up on our door. It was just a part of our life. When we wanted new Easter dresses and were obsessed with bonnets (ya we loved Little House on the Prairie) Mama whipped up matching Easter outfits, complete with mini ties for our brothers. She never failed to surprise us with new pajamas, dresses for weddings, birthdays, and then came the quilts. Our talented Mama began quilting and fell in love. She made us all quilts for special occasions: for Christmas, for moving to College, for babies, and most recently for weddings. The style of quilting she loves is called free motion quilting, which is when the quilter lowers the feed dogs on the machine and freely quilts designs. Basically it is like drawing with the sewing machine. The effect is beautiful, and allowed our Mama to move into Art quilts, like her Sunflower creation featured here.

Recently she has been making baby quilts out of bright 100% flannels, and cotton batting. The baby quilts are perfect for stimulating new babies and of course keeping them cozy warm. If you are interested in quilting: they are 4 inch finished blocks with 1 and 3 inch border and are free motion quilted. These quilts are crib size, and perfect for the ever growing baby. Our mama is making them to sell, so if interested post in the comments below!

Her spectacular new piece de resistance is the Wedding Quilt made for Elese and her new hubby Shaun. The Wedding Quilt is king size and is 6 inch finished 9 patch blocks, alternating with a 6 inch cream tone on tone. It is assembled on point and if you are a quilter looking for a fabulous site to help you with on points, check out: quiltville on point math

The Wedding Quilt is straight stitched quilted, and has  free motion quilting in the cream coloured blocks. It is so beautiful! Perhaps we girls just might have to start quilting soon...
